Kachana and Phillip’s wedding was such a blast. It was fun for me personally on a couple of levels. First, while I’ve attended many Cambodian ceremonies growing up, this was the first that I photographed professionally; and second, since I shot Phillip’s brother’s wedding last year, I got to see some familiar faces throughout the day. All of this of course meant that I really felt right at home!
We started off the day with the Cambodian ceremony at Kachana’s house. Very traditional Cambodian weddings involve many rituals, but they opted to do just the knot tying ritual, where family and friends tie blessing strings around the bride and groom’s wrists and give them gifts. It’s a fun ceremony to witness and the traditional clothing is definitely a feast for the eyes–so colorful and ornate.
We headed over to Phillip’s family’s house for an outfit change and the tea ceremony, and then Kachana donned outfit number three (a white gown) for some portraits at the ICA. While the museum wasn’t our first choice for an outdoor location, it turned out to be a great alternative since it provided coverage from the rain while still giving us a lot of natural light.Β We then completed the night with a lively reception at Hei La Moon in Boston’s Chinatown.
Such a festive and fun day! Here are some of my favorites..
OPEN POSTIt’s rare that I shoot indoors for an engagement session because clients always want to reschedule when it rains, but I’m so glad Emily and Simon and I had to head inside for this one. It was my first time shooting in the Boston Public Library, and I’m already itching to go back–rain or shine! It’s SUCH a gorgeous backdrop for a session. Thankfully, the sky cleared for a bit and we were able to get some shots out in the courtyard too, and then we headed to the Fairmont Copley Hotel down the street at the end of the afternoon.
Emily and Simon’s relationship is just the perfect mix of sweetness and silliness, which made the session incredibly easy and fun. I can’t wait to shoot their wedding this July in New York. It will be my first time photographing a wedding outside of New England!
OPEN POSTNot even a week after my last shoot on the Esplanade, I went back for Marcia and Joshua’s engagement session. I love shooting in familiar locations–it pushes you to see and shoot things a little differently. Plus, each couple is unique, and the light is always changing, so you really can get a variety of images across sessions.
I had a great time strolling along the Charles with Marcia and Joshua and getting to know them better. Here are some of my favorites from that day..
OPEN POSTI met up with Kachana and Phillip last week for their engagement session on the Esplanade. The afternoon was starting to look like rain, but other than clouds and some cool winds, the skies held out for us. I didn’t mind this too much because it meant fewer people were out and about, and it meant Kachana and Phillip had more chances to stay warm (a.k.a. snuggle) together under the trees and on the docks on the Charles. :)
They’ll be getting married next month, and I’m so excited for the wedding. They’ll be doing a mix of traditional Cambodian and Chinese ceremonies–the types of ceremonies I grew up attending. Also, I shot Phillip’s brother’s wedding last year, and I can’t wait to see some familiar faces at the wedding!
OPEN POSTThe weather is (finally!) getting warmer, which means I have my first engagement sessions of the year lined up these coming weeks. In getting ready for them I thought it’d be fun to look back on the sessions that I did last year and feature some of my favorites. These are in no particular order and cover so many of my sweet couples and so many great locations. These photographs were taken in a variety of places, including the Boston Public Garden, Beacon Hill, the ICA, Liberty Hotel, Aquarium and wharf area, Christopher Columbus Park, Nahant beaches, Harvard Square in Cambridge, and the Esplanade along the Charles River. I hope they serve as inspiration for my future clients who are looking for ideas for places to shoot! As you scroll through, feel free to click on any image to view the full session.
